Tragedy struck when an 8-year-old girl became the latest victim in the nation’s road traffic incidents. The child was crossing Edinburgh Drive with her father on Thursday night when they were struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old male. Both were quickly transported to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, but, sadly, the young girl was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana reported that the national road death toll has reached 55 this year, an improvement compared to 74 fatalities during the same period last year. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and authorities plan to question the driver involved.
While this incident is deeply saddening, it highlights ongoing efforts to improve road safety. The decrease in the national road death toll year on year suggests that measures being implemented may be starting to have a positive impact. It remains crucial for both pedestrians and drivers to remain vigilant to prevent such tragedies in the future.
