A tragic incident has left a 16-year-old boy as the latest victim of road fatalities in the nation. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana reported that the young driver was involved in a serious accident on Korotari Road in Labasa shortly after 1 AM on December 3. It appears he lost control of his vehicle, which then left the road and struck a culvert.

After the accident, he was transported to Labasa Hospital, where he remained under medical care until his unfortunate passing. Divuana noted that the teen was driving without a valid driver’s license, and this detail will be taken into account as part of the ongoing investigation into the crash.

As of now, the country has recorded a total of 57 road fatalities this year, a decrease compared to 74 during the same timeframe last year, suggesting some progress in road safety efforts.

This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the responsibilities that come with driving. Efforts to educate young individuals about safe driving practices and the legal requirements for obtaining a driver’s license could be pivotal in preventing such tragedies in the future.

In light of the increasing awareness surrounding road safety, there is hope that communities will come together to support initiatives aimed at reducing the number of accidents and saving lives on the roads.
