A 55-year-old man has lost his life, while another individual is in critical condition following an accident involving a locomotive. The two were transporting cane carts to the Rarawai Mill in Ba when the incident occurred at the FSC train lane bridge in Lausa, Tavua.
Divisional Police Commander West, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakabo Vaisewa, confirmed that the accident took place yesterday. According to SSP Vaisewa, the locomotive lost control as it approached the FSC train lane bridge at Lausa.
The fall was approximately five meters, and both the deceased and the driver became trapped inside the locomotive. Officers from Tavua Police and the Fire Station coordinated efforts to rescue the two individuals. The locomotive driver is currently receiving further treatment at Lautoka Aspen Hospital.
