Tragedy struck in Brazil as at least eight people lost their lives in a hot air balloon accident in Praia Grande, according to the state governor, Jorginho Mello. The balloon, which had 21 passengers on board, crashed early Saturday morning near a health center.
Thirteen individuals, including the pilot, managed to survive the incident, and no one remains missing. It was reported that a fire erupted inside the balloon’s basket, prompting the pilot to lower the balloon and instruct passengers to jump. Unfortunately, some were unable to escape in time, and as the flames intensified, the balloon began to ascend again before ultimately crashing.
Governor Mello, who is currently on an official visit in China, expressed his condolences and assured that the state would provide full support to the families affected by this tragedy. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the cause of the accident.
Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva also extended his sympathies to the victims’ families and announced that federal resources were being mobilized to assist in the aftermath.
