The Fiji Muslim League (FML) has announced that the late boxer Ubayd Haider will have his final rites conducted tomorrow at Raralevu cemetery, starting at 8:30 PM. In a statement, FML confirmed the details, stating, “Janaza of Br Ubayd Hayder will be held on Tue 12th Nov at 8.30pm @ Raralevu Muslim cemetery, Nausori.”
Ubayd Haider, previously known as Nathan Singh, faced a tragic turn of events after his match on October 26, where he lost by TKO to Runqi Zhou in the IBO Asia Pacific Super Featherweight title fight. Following the bout, the 25-year-old boxer collapsed and was taken to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where he remained until his passing yesterday.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the physical dangers associated with professional boxing. In the wake of Haider’s passing, the boxing community and his fans may hope for further discussions around athlete safety and health regulations in combat sports. Haider’s legacy as a dedicated athlete will be honored during the janaza, allowing friends, family, and supporters to pay their respects.
The importance of community support during such difficult times cannot be understated, as it helps loved ones navigate their grief while celebrating the life and contributions of the departed.
