A 27-year-old man tragically lost his life in a severe road accident in Rakiraki early this morning. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, who heads the Fiji Police Force’s Traffic Department, the deceased was a passenger in a vehicle with two others, driven by a 28-year-old man.
The incident occurred around 3 a.m. as the four were traveling from Rakiraki to Nalawa. The driver reportedly failed to navigate a bend, resulting in the vehicle veering off the road and crashing into a roadside market.
All individuals involved were rushed to Rakiraki Hospital, where sadly, the 27-year-old was pronounced dead. The driver and one passenger received treatment and were discharged, while the second passenger was transferred to Lautoka Hospital for further care.
SSP Divuana noted that investigations are ongoing, and the current road death toll stands at 38, a decrease from 62 fatalities during the same period last year.
