A man in his 30s tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Nasinu early this morning. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the incident took place near the Nasinu road junction at approximately 3 AM.
The victim was traveling toward Suva when his vehicle collided with another car driven by a man of a similar age, who was traveling in the opposite direction. Following the crash, emergency services rushed the victim to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital; however, he was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
SSP Divuana confirmed that investigations are underway to fully understand the circumstances leading to this tragic event. In a broader context, it’s worth noting that the road death toll for this year currently stands at 46, a decrease from 68 fatalities recorded during the same period last year, suggesting ongoing efforts to improve road safety may be having a positive impact.
This incident underscores the importance of road safety measures and vigilance while driving. While the loss of life is always devastating, the downward trend in road fatalities indicates that there are ongoing efforts to enhance safety on the roads, and hopefully, such measures will continue to prevent similar incidents in the future.
