A tragic accident in Kulukulu, Sigatoka, claimed the lives of a man and a woman early in the morning. The incident took place around 2 a.m., following reports that the vehicle’s driver was heavily intoxicated. As the driver was traveling toward Sigatoka Town, they lost control while navigating a bend and collided with an electric post.
Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while another male and female passenger sustained injuries and are currently hospitalized. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic and Transport Control, expressed sorrow over this incident, noting that it marks the second fatal accident in the area within just 24 hours.
SSP Divuana urged drivers to take their responsibilities seriously and to prioritize the safety of their passengers and other road users. He emphasized that the Police, in conjunction with the Land Transport Authority, will maintain a visible presence on the roads to ensure community safety.
This unfortunate event serves as a somber reminder of the dangers of impaired driving. While the incident is tragic, it highlights the ongoing need for awareness and accountability among drivers to prevent further loss of life on the roads.
