A businessman from Martintar, Nadi, has tragically drowned in the waters of the Mamanuca Group, leaving his family in search of answers. Zou Fan, 52, known affectionately as Andy by the local community, was an executive at the tourist agency Fabulous Holiday and is now remembered as one of Fiji’s heartbreaking drowning victims.

His son, Zou Junjie, shared that his father was a joyful and compassionate man who brought happiness to those around him. The circumstances of his death are distressing; a New Zealand couple allegedly found his body floating while snorkeling near the Malamala Beach Club. Zou Junjie recounted that his father had taken a group of 80 Chinese tourists for an excursion at the beach club, after which they went snorkeling.

Brad Rutherford, CEO of South Sea Cruises, confirmed the incident, emphasizing that while they were aware of a death, the specific causes remain uncertain pending an autopsy report. The family is grappling with profound loss, as Andy leaves behind two sons and his mother.

According to police spokesperson Wame Bautolu, the incident occurred at 4 PM on October 18, and an investigation is currently underway. Despite the family’s heartache, they hope to find clarity regarding the circumstances surrounding Andy’s death.

This tragic event highlights the need for increased safety measures in tourism activities, especially for water-based excursions, to prevent future tragedies and ensure families do not have to endure similar heartaches.

In summary, the story is one of deep sorrow, but also serves as a reminder of the love and joy that Andy contributed to his community. His legacy may inspire others to cherish life and prioritize safety in water activities.
