A tragic incident in Galoa village has resulted in the death of a one-year-old child, who became the latest drowning victim in the country. The young child was found floating near the shoreline on Tuesday, and despite efforts to revive him, those attempts were unsuccessful. Reports suggest that the child was with an older sibling before wandering out to sea.

Authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, with a focus on potential negligence. In light of this heartbreaking event, the Fiji Police Force is urging all parents and guardians to provide vigilant supervision for their young children to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

So far this year, the drowning death toll has reached 46, which is slightly lower than the 47 incidents reported during the same period last year.

It’s a stark reminder of the importance of water safety and awareness among families, especially in coastal areas. By increasing awareness and adhering to safety guidelines, we can hope to see a decrease in such tragic incidents moving forward. Parents and guardians are encouraged to share resources and tips on keeping children safe near water to help protect the most vulnerable members of our communities.
