Tragic Drowning: Family Grieves Loss of Young Student

A family is grieving the loss of their son who died in a swimming accident in the United States. Kaiva Francis, a 21-year-old from Wailevu in Labasa, drowned in the Neosho River in Eastern Kansas while he was attending Neosho County Community College. His parents are heartbroken, especially since he had just returned to the US after a two and a half month vacation in Fiji. His father was too overwhelmed with grief to comment when reached for a statement. Neosho County Sheriff Greg Taylor reported that Francis had been swimming with friends at the time of the incident. He confirmed that Francis’s body has been recovered and sent for an autopsy. Witnesses indicated that he jumped off the dam and became trapped in the current.
