The body of Alifereti Raisele was discovered at his home on Lomanikoro Lane in Raiwaqa on Friday morning. Neighbour Sakeo Serewai, aged 67, described Mr. Raisele as a quiet individual who had been facing a long-term illness. Mr. Serewai mentioned that the last time he saw Mr. Raisele was on Sunday while he was watching a sevens rugby match next door. It was reported by another neighbour that he was last seen on Monday evening after returning from a local shop.
Mr. Serewai speculated that Mr. Raisele’s declining health may have contributed to his death, noting that he had been experiencing severe health issues, including swelling in both legs that began approximately a year ago. Since the passing of his 93-year-old father two years prior, Mr. Raisele had been living alone.
He was regarded as a good man and a regular churchgoer at the Church of God on Brown Street. His brother-in-law and niece are expected to manage the funeral arrangements.
Police confirmed that Mr. Raisele’s body was found on Wednesday morning, and a post-mortem examination was conducted on Friday to ascertain the cause of his death. The situation emphasizes the impact of long-term illness on individuals living alone and highlights the importance of community connections, as described in previous articles reporting on similar occurrences.
In a world where individuals can sometimes feel isolated, this tragic incident serves as a reminder of how vital it is for communities to remain engaged and supportive of one another, particularly for those experiencing health challenges. Through vigilance and outreach, communities can foster stronger bonds that provide safety and well-being for all residents.
