The tragic death of a 12-year-old boy who fell from a vehicle was deemed preventable by Irimaia Rokosawa, the chief executive officer of the Land Transport Authority (LTA). Mr. Rokosawa stressed the importance of vigilance and responsible driving to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

It is reported that the vehicle hit potholes, which caused the boy to be thrown from the moving vehicle onto the road. In response to this incident, Mr. Rokosawa emphasized that drivers must maintain heightened awareness, particularly when encountering challenging road conditions. He urged that safety starts with responsible driving, highlighting that drivers are primarily responsible for the well-being of all passengers.

He called upon drivers to slow down on uneven surfaces and ensure that passengers are properly secured while in the vehicle. Additionally, he encouraged a shift in mindset regarding road safety, cautioning against speeding, which can diminish reaction times and worsen the consequences of accidents.

Mr. Rokosawa reminded both drivers and passengers about their shared responsibility in ensuring safe travel and avoiding reckless behaviors. The LTA remains committed to its ongoing road safety education campaigns aimed at improving awareness of responsible driving and passenger conduct.

This incident serves as a poignant reminder of the critical importance of road safety, and it highlights the need for both drivers and passengers to take their shared responsibility seriously in order to prevent future tragedies.
