Tragic Death of Fiji Rugby Player and Student at Nihon University in Tokyo Sparks Shock and Sadness

The untimely death of Fiji rugby player Sekove Tagicakiverata, who was also a student at Nihon University in Tokyo, Japan, last Friday has deeply shocked the community there.

Tagicakiverata was rushed to the hospital on Thursday and was pronounced dead the following day.

“I have faced challenging times in my life and never asked God why, because His plans are better than mine,” sevens maestro Waisale Serevi posted on his Facebook page regarding Tagicakiverata’s death.

Tagicakiverata, a former Marist Brothers High School student, was well-known in rugby circles. He played utility back for Eastern Saints and Covenant Brothers in the Suva Rugby Union club competition. Friends described him as a hardworking and funny individual both on and off the field.

Many who watched him play believed he had a bright future in rugby.

Tagicakiverata was also part of the Officers Cadet training in the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

The cause of his death is yet to be determined.
