Police are looking into the death of Lance Seeto, a well-known chef and director of Kanu Gastropub, who was found unresponsive with noticeable head injuries in the bathroom of his Suva apartment on Clarke Street yesterday. He was 60 years old.
According to the police, a staff member from Kanu Gastropub went to his apartment at 9:21 AM after being unable to reach him since last Friday. Authorities conducted an investigation at the scene throughout the afternoon.
While the investigation awaits post-mortem results to establish the cause of death, an outpouring of condolences has flooded social media following the tragic news. Div Damodar from the Div Damodar Group of Companies shared his sorrow, describing Seeto as a kind and cheerful person. He emphasized that Seeto had inspired and assisted many in Fiji and would be remembered as a brother.
The Fiji Chefs Facebook page honored him as a legendary figure in Fijian gastronomy, highlighting his commitment to training and developing many of Fiji’s top chefs and elevating the nation’s culinary arts.
Furthermore, the German Embassy in Suva expressed its condolences, noting Chef Seeto’s crucial role in making their events memorable, including the recent visit from German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to Fiji from May 5 to 7.
