An 8-year-old girl has tragically become the latest victim of a road fatality in the country. The incident occurred when she was crossing Edinburgh Drive with her father on Thursday night, and they were struck by a vehicle reportedly driven by a 43-year-old man.
Both were promptly taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, but unfortunately, the young girl was pronounced dead upon arrival. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, Director Traffic, indicated that the national road death toll now stands at 55, a decline from 74 fatalities recorded during the same period last year.
Authorities are actively investigating the incident, and the driver involved is set to be questioned shortly.
This incident highlights the ongoing need for heightened road safety measures to protect pedestrians, particularly children, as well as the importance of driver awareness in preventing such tragedies. It is a stark reminder of the impact of road safety on communities and the lives that can be saved through diligence and care on the roads.
