A 20-year-old man is reported to be the latest victim of a road fatality in the country.
Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, stated that the deceased was one of three passengers in a vehicle operated by a 30-year-old driver involved in an accident on Kings Road in Naviyago, Lautoka, on Saturday morning.
According to SSP Divuana, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which crashed into the railing of the Naviyago bridge and fell into the river.
The 20-year-old victim and another passenger were taken to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where the young man from Matanagata in Tavua was pronounced dead upon arrival.
One of the other passengers remains hospitalized while the other occupants were treated and released.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Currently, the road death toll stands at 41, a reduction from 63 during the same period last year.
