A man in his 50s has reportedly become the latest road fatality in the country following an accident in Davuilevu this morning.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, stated that the victim was driving home after completing his night shift when he is believed to have lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle veered off the road and crashed into a post.
Emergency responders from the National Fire Authority and Police arrived at the scene, and the victim was transported for medical treatment but was sadly pronounced dead upon arrival.
SSP Divuana indicated that a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death.
Currently, the national road death toll stands at 40, a decrease from 63 for the same time period last year.
