A woman in her 70s lost her life in a motor vehicle accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, reported that the victim was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old woman, identified as the suspect.
According to SSP Divuana, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect reportedly lost control of her vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and collide with a post. The force of the impact caused the car to swing back onto the roadway, colliding with another vehicle.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger were unharmed. SSP Divuana emphasized that speeding was likely a factor in the accident and urged drivers to adhere to speed limits to ensure the safety of all road users.
As of now, the road death toll stands at 37, a decrease from 60 during the same period last year.
