A woman in her 70s has tragically died following a motor vehicle accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. The Senior Superintendent of Police, Mitieli Divuana, reported that the deceased was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by a 36-year-old woman, who is now the suspect in the case.
Initial reports indicate that the suspect lost control of her vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and strike a post. The force of the collision caused the vehicle to swing back onto the road, resulting in a bump with another vehicle.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver and passenger of the second vehicle involved were unharmed. SSP Divuana emphasized that speeding is believed to be the cause of the accident and urged drivers to adhere to speed limits for everyone’s safety.
As of now, the road death toll stands at 37, a significant decrease compared to 60 fatalities during the same period last year.
