A tragic motor vehicle accident in Nasinu early this morning has resulted in the death of a man in his 30s. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the incident occurred near the junction of Nasinu Road shortly after 3 a.m.
The victim was driving towards Suva when his vehicle collided with another car driven by a man of the same age heading in the opposite direction. Emergency responders rushed the victim to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital; however, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
As investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing, the Director of Traffic has reiterated the importance of vigilance among drivers. He expressed concern over the rising number of traffic violations, suggesting that many road users are not heeding safety advisories.
“Road safety stakeholders continuously remind and plead with all road users on the need to be safe and practice safe road behavior. Unfortunately, many seem to disregard these important warnings. Complacency can lead to accidents and sometimes, tragic losses of life,” he stated.
The current toll from road-related deaths stands at 46, a decline from 68 fatalities reported during the same period last year.
