A woman in her 70s tragically lost her life in a car accident on Viseisei Bypass Road in Vuda, Lautoka, on Sunday afternoon.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Traffic Director, reported that the victim was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old woman who is believed to have lost control of the car. The vehicle swerved off the road and struck a post before bouncing back and colliding with another vehicle.
The suspect has been admitted to Lautoka Hospital for treatment, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger escaped without injuries.
SSP Divuana indicated that speed was a contributing factor in the collision and urged drivers to adhere to speed limits to ensure safety on the roads.
The victim’s family has chosen not to speak with the media as the suspected driver is a relative.
As of now, the road death toll stands at 37, a significant decrease from 60 fatalities during the same period last year.
