A woman in her 70s died following a car accident near the Viseisei bypass route yesterday.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, who is the Director of Traffic, the deceased was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 36-year-old woman suspected to have lost control of the car. This loss of control caused the vehicle to veer off the road and collide with a post. The car then returned to the road and struck another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle and their passenger were unharmed, while the suspect is currently receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital. SSP Divuana stated that speeding is believed to be the primary cause of the incident and urged motorists to adhere to speed limits for everyone’s safety.

This year has seen 37 traffic-related fatalities, a decrease from 60 during the same period last year.
