A tragic motor vehicle accident in Nasinu this morning has resulted in the death of a man in his 30s. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the collision occurred near the Nasinu road junction shortly after 3 AM. The victim was driving towards Suva when another vehicle, driven by a man also in his 30s, crashed into his car.
Emergency services transported the victim to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
SSP Divuana emphasized the importance of road safety, urging drivers to remain vigilant. He expressed concern that despite continuous reminders from road safety stakeholders, many drivers are disregarding safety advisories, leading to accidents and, unfortunately, fatalities.
“Complacency leads to accidents and sometimes tragic loss of life. We encourage all road users to change their mindset for the sake of their safety this festive season and to adhere strictly to road rules,” he stated.
In a glimmer of hope, this year’s road death toll currently stands at 46, which is a significant decrease from 68 during the same period last year. This decline highlights the potential for improved road safety with increased awareness and adherence to traffic regulations.
Comments: It’s vital for every driver and road user to understand the critical nature of road safety and take proactive steps to prevent accidents. The ongoing investigations will hopefully shed light on the circumstances of this tragic event and contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety in the community.
