A woman in her 70s has tragically lost her life in a motor vehicle accident that occurred on the Viseisei bypass road. The incident took place yesterday, and according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the victim was a passenger in a car driven by a 36-year-old woman, who is now the suspect in the case.
Initial investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly lost control of her vehicle, causing it to veer off the roadway and collide with a post. The force of the impact caused the car to swing back onto the road, where it subsequently struck another vehicle.
Currently, the suspect is receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger emerged from the incident without injuries. SSP Divuana emphasized that speeding was the suspected cause of the accident and urged drivers to adhere to speed limits, which are in place to protect everyone’s safety.
As of now, the road death toll has reached 37 for the year, a notable decrease from 60 during the same period last year.
