Tragic Bypass Accident Claims Life of 70s Woman

A woman in her 70s has lost her life following a car accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. The Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, who oversees traffic, reported that the victim was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old woman suspected of causing the accident.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect may have lost control of her vehicle, which veered off the road and collided with a post. The force of the impact caused the car to swing back onto the road, where it struck another vehicle.

Currently, the suspect is receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger were not injured. SSP Divuana emphasized that speeding is believed to be the cause of the accident and urged drivers to adhere to speed limits for the safety of all road users. The current road death toll stands at 37, a decrease compared to 60 fatalities during the same period last year.
