A 17-year-old boy is in police custody after being involved in a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two men. The police reported that the teenager allegedly took his father’s car keys without permission while his father was sleeping. As he drove along Bau Road, he struck two victims who were standing on the roadside and subsequently fled the scene.

The victims, both men in their 40s, were transported to the Nausori Health Centre, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths. It was later revealed that the young suspect informed his father about the accident, leading to the father’s report to the authorities.

Currently, investigations into the circumstances of this incident are ongoing. Similar incidents have previously highlighted the dangers associated with unlicensed driving and the responsibilities of guardians in ensuring the safety and legal compliance of young drivers.

Communities are encouraged to engage in discussions around road safety, particularly emphasizing driver education programs tailored for younger individuals. Such proactive measures could potentially prevent future tragedies and promote safer driving practices among youths.

This unfortunate event serves as a crucial reminder of the impact of irresponsible actions behind the wheel and reiterates the essential need for legal adherence and caution on the roads.
