A tragic motor vehicle accident claimed the life of a man in his 20s on Valley Road in Sigatoka yesterday. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the victim was one of four passengers in a vehicle driven by a 22-year-old. The car reportedly lost control and veered off the road, rolling over multiple times near Navula in the afternoon.

SSP Divuana noted that the impact of the crash was severe, resulting in the victim being ejected from the vehicle, which caused critical injuries that ultimately led to his death. The driver and the other passengers were promptly transported to Sigatoka Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care as the investigation into the incident continues.

In a broader context, it’s worth noting that the national road death toll has seen a decline this year, currently recorded at 55 compared to 74 during the same period last year. This statistic illustrates ongoing efforts to improve road safety, although the loss of life in any accident remains a tragic reminder of the risks on the road.

The community is encouraged to prioritize safe driving practices and to be vigilant when on the road to prevent similar incidents in the future.
