A tragic incident has resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy in Fiji, becoming the latest victim of road accidents in the region. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the young driver was traveling on Korotari Road in Labasa shortly after 1 a.m. when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle. The car then veered off the road and collided with a culvert.
Emergency services quickly transported the boy to Labasa Hospital, where he was treated until he sadly passed away. Authorities have stated that the victim was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license. This factor will be investigated in connection with the accident.
This incident raises concern about road safety and the importance of adhering to driving regulations. As of now, the road death toll in Fiji stands at 57, which is a reduction from 74 fatalities during the same timeframe last year, indicating a potential positive trend in road safety efforts.
In light of this tragedy, it is crucial to emphasize the importance of road safety, especially among young drivers. Continued awareness and educational campaigns can help prevent such devastating accidents in the future, encouraging responsible driving habits and adherence to traffic laws.
