A woman in her 70s tragically lost her life in a motor vehicle accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, reported that the deceased was a passenger in a car driven by a 36-year-old woman who is considered the suspect in the incident.
According to initial reports, the suspect allegedly lost control of her vehicle, which then veered off the road and struck a post. The force of the collision caused the car to swing back onto the roadway, where it collided with another vehicle. SSP Divuana noted that the suspect is currently receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and their passenger were unharmed.
He emphasized that speeding is believed to be the cause of the accident, urging drivers to adhere to speed limits for the safety of all road users. The current road death toll stands at 37, a decrease from 60 during the same period last year.
