A woman in her 70s has lost her life following a traffic accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the victim was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old woman who is now considered a suspect in the case.
Preliminary reports indicate that the suspect may have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the roadway and collide with a post. The force of the collision then caused the vehicle to swing back onto the road, where it struck another car.
SSP Divuana reported that the suspect is currently receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger were unharmed in the incident.
He emphasized that speeding appears to be the primary cause of the accident, urging drivers to adhere to speed limits for the safety of all road users. The current road death toll stands at 37, a significant decrease from 60 fatalities during the same period last year.
