A woman in her 70s tragically lost her life in a motor vehicle accident on the Viseisei bypass road yesterday. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, stated that the deceased was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 36-year-old woman, who is now the primary suspect in the incident.
According to initial reports, the driver allegedly lost control of her vehicle, causing it to swerve off the road and collide with a post. The force of the impact propelled the vehicle back onto the roadway, where it then struck another vehicle.
SSP Divuana confirmed that the suspect is being treated at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger emerged unharmed from the crash. He emphasized that speeding was identified as a contributing factor to the accident and reiterated the importance of adhering to speed limits for the safety of all road users.
Currently, the road death toll stands at 37, a significant decrease compared to 60 fatalities during the same period last year.
