A tragic incident yesterday resulted in the death of a 12-year-old boy after he was thrown from the back of a carrier while traveling with other youths along the Natadola road. The accident occurred when the vehicle hit a pothole, causing the child to fall onto the road.

The victim was a resident of Sabeto, and his death has raised concerns about road safety, particularly during the busy festive season. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu addressed these concerns, noting that despite ongoing efforts to promote road safety and visible police presence, not all drivers take the necessary precautions. He emphasized that while police cannot monitor every road at all times, responsibility ultimately lies with the drivers.

Currently, the boy’s body is at Sigatoka Hospital, awaiting a postmortem examination.

This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for continuous awareness among drivers, especially during peak travel times. A community-focused approach to safety measures may help prevent such accidents in the future, ensuring that roads are safer for everyone.
