A tragic incident in Nabua has taken a heartbreaking turn as the man suspected of causing the death of a 14-year-old student in a recent motor vehicle accident has died while in police custody. The 54-year-old suspect, who had been brought to the Nabua Police Station for questioning, reportedly began to feel unwell and was immediately transported to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted. Unfortunately, he passed away early the following morning.

Authorities have stated that a post-mortem examination will be conducted to establish the cause of death. The suspect was under investigation in connection with the tragic accident that occurred when he allegedly lost control of his vehicle and struck the young boy as he waited to cross the street at a traffic light. Eyewitnesses have recounted that the vehicle collided with a bus before veering off course and hitting the child.

This accident and the subsequent death of the suspect have raised significant concerns about road safety, particularly for vulnerable pedestrians such as children. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana has stressed the importance of adhering to traffic regulations and exercising caution while driving. The ongoing investigations serve as a reminder of the necessity for increased awareness and preventative measures to protect all road users, especially young ones.

In light of these tragic events, there is hope that communities will unite to promote better road safety practices and advocate for stringent traffic regulations. The aim is to prevent further outbreaks of such sorrowful incidents and foster an environment where the safety of pedestrians is continuously prioritized.
