A 20-year-old man is reportedly the latest victim of a road fatality in the country. Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, indicated that the deceased was one of three passengers in a vehicle driven by a 30-year-old man involved in an accident on Kings Road in Naviyago, Lautoka, on Saturday morning.
According to SSP Divuana, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then crashed into the railing of the Naviyago bridge and fell into the river. The 20-year-old, from Matanagata in Tavua, and another passenger were quickly transported to Lautoka Aspen Hospital, where the young man was pronounced dead on arrival.
One other passenger remains hospitalized, while the remaining occupants received treatment and have since been discharged.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing. SSP Divuana reported that the current road death toll stands at 41, a notable decrease from 63 fatalities during the same period last year.
