A 27-year-old man was killed in a tragic road accident in Rakiraki early this morning. According to the Fiji Police Force’s Director of Traffic, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the victim was a passenger along with two others in a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old man. It is reported that as the group traveled from Rakiraki to Nalawa around 3 a.m., the driver lost control while trying to navigate a bend, causing the vehicle to leave the road and crash into a roadside market.
All individuals were taken to Rakiraki Hospital, where the victim was sadly pronounced dead. The driver and one passenger received treatment and were subsequently discharged, while another passenger was transferred to Lautoka Hospital for further care. SSP Divuana mentioned that investigations are ongoing, revealing that the current road death toll stands at 38, a decrease from 62 during the same period last year.
