The tragic death of 21-year-old Kaiava Francis has shocked his family in Fiji following his drowning incident at the Detners dam in Kansas, USA, last Saturday.

Reports from Kake Television in Wichita indicate that Francis jumped into the water while swimming with friends but was quickly swept away by the currents of the Neosho River. His body was recovered on the same day and taken by local authorities for identification.

A close family member, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed disbelief upon hearing the news, stating, “When I received the news, I didn’t know how to react, I was in shock.”

Francis, the second oldest of four siblings, hailed from Wailevu, Labasa, and had maternal links to Waibasaga in Wainimala, Naitasiri.
