A father from Nayawa, Sigatoka, is confronted with heartbreaking questions following the tragic loss of his son. Twenty-two-year-old Ravneel Lal died in a motor vehicle accident on Navula Valley Road in Nadroga on Sunday afternoon.
Ravneel was one of four passengers in a car driven by a 22-year-old, which reportedly lost control and rolled over multiple times. His father, Rohit Lal, expressed his profound sorrow, stating, “I will have to face the world without him.”
Rohit highlighted his son’s passion for cars, explaining that Ravneel had recently invested in upgrading his own vehicle. “At a young age, he loved cars. His grandfather owns the David Driving School. My son bought a car a year ago and has been gradually adding enhancements in preparation for car shows,” he shared.
According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the driver of the vehicle is under investigation as early reports suggest he lost control, which resulted in the accident. Ravneel was ejected from the car, sustaining serious injuries that led to his untimely death. The other passengers and the driver were taken to Sigatoka Hospital for treatment as investigations into the incident continue.
SSP Divuana appealed to drivers to exercise caution on the roads, emphasizing the importance of a responsible attitude. “If you continue to take advisories and road safety lightly, then accidents are bound to happen, resulting in serious injury or loss of life,” he cautioned.
On a broader note, the national road death toll is currently at 55, which reflects a slight improvement compared to 74 deaths during the same period last year. This suggests that ongoing efforts in road safety awareness may be contributing to a decrease in fatalities.
In summary, while the loss of Ravneel Lal is a deeply painful event for his family and community, it serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for all drivers and passengers to prioritize cautious driving.
