A woman in her 70s has tragically lost her life following a traffic accident on the Viseisei Bypass Rd in Vuda, Lautoka, on Sunday afternoon. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the Director of Traffic, reported that the deceased was a passenger in a vehicle operated by a 36-year-old woman identified as the suspect.
Initial investigations indicate that the suspect may have lost control of the vehicle, leading it to veer off the road and collide with a post. The force of the impact caused the vehicle to rebound onto the road, where it struck another vehicle.
The suspect is currently receiving treatment at Lautoka Hospital, while the driver of the second vehicle and his passenger were unharmed. SSP Divuana emphasized that speeding was a probable factor in the accident, urging drivers to adhere to speed limits for the safety of all road users.
The victim’s family has chosen not to comment to the media, as the suspect is believed to be related to them. Police statistics show that the current road death toll stands at 37, a decrease from 60 fatalities during the same period last year.
