Two men tragically lost their lives in a motor vehicle accident early this morning. Authorities confirmed that a 17-year-old is in police custody, believed to be responsible for the incident. The young suspect allegedly took his father’s vehicle keys while his father was asleep and drove along Bau Road where he struck the two victims, who were standing roadside, before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, the suspect communicated the event to his father, who subsequently reported the matter to the police. The two victims, reportedly in their 40s, were pronounced dead upon arrival at the Nausori Health Centre by medical personnel.

In a related note, recent reports indicate that road safety continues to be a pressing issue, with multiple recent traffic accidents leading to fatalities. For instance, just hours before this accident, two men died in a separate incident on Wailoaloa Road in Nadi. This tragic trend highlights the dangers on the roads, and police are urging drivers to exercise caution.

Investigations into today’s accident are ongoing. Authorities are emphasizing the need to address road safety to avoid further tragedies and are hopeful that increased awareness and responsible driving habits can lead to a reduction in road fatalities. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and prioritize safe driving practices to protect lives.
