Roger Qoro Sr is facing the heartbreaking reality of losing his son, Roger Qoro Jr, a beloved figure in Sabeto Village, Nadi, who was affectionately known as the “golden boy.” The tragedy unfolded on Wednesday when the 12-year-old fell from a moving vehicle after attending a New Year’s picnic hosted by the Revival Church at Natadola Beach.
Recalling the events of that day, Mr. Qoro shared that his son initially traveled to the beach by bus but decided to ride back with friends in a carrier that was transporting tents. “His mother called me and said he followed his friends. I later received a call saying Jr had fallen off the carrier,” he explained.
Those who witnessed the accident swiftly took Roger Jr to Sigatoka Hospital. Mr. Qoro recounted that relatives at the scene reported he was responsive but kept his eyes closed. Unfortunately, the father received the devastating news by phone later that evening when he inquired about his son’s condition. “They started crying. My uncle then told me Ju had passed away,” he shared, revealing that his son had sustained internal injuries and bruising.
Roger Jr was cherished by his community, known for his dependable nature and excellence in both academics and sports at Sabeto District School, where his numerous accolades led to his affectionate nickname. As funeral arrangements are being prepared, the void left by his absence is profoundly felt in the village.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu has also expressed condolences and concern regarding this tragic incident.
In light of such an overwhelming loss, the community’s love and support for the Qoro family serve as a reminder of the bonds that hold them together. Though the grief is immense, the legacy of Roger Jr’s spirit and his contributions to the community will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, providing hope that healing will come over time.
