Miriama Radinikuva, 37, succumbed to the flames, while her husband, Viliame Baravi, remains in critical condition with severe burns after being rescued by a relative. The fire not only claimed Ms. Radinikuva’s life but also destroyed two neighboring homes, prompting frantic attempts by residents to escape the engulfing blaze.
Witness accounts indicate that the fire may have originated amid reported domestic disputes between Ms. Radinikuva and her husband, though the exact cause is under investigation by authorities. Ms. Radinikuva leaves behind five grieving children, who are struggling to comprehend the sudden loss and trauma they have experienced.
Litia Daulekeba, Ms. Radinikuva’s mother-in-law, expressed heartache while trying to support her grandchildren. “I really don’t know what happened, but at this time, I know my grandchildren are just as shocked as I am,” she shared. The response to the fire was swift, but by the time the National Fire Authority arrived, much of the damage was already done.
