Tragedy Strikes: Locomotive Accident Claims Life and Leaves Another in Critical Condition

A 55-year-old man has died and another is in critical condition following an accident involving a locomotive. The two men were transporting sugar cane carts to Rarawai Mill in Ba when the incident occurred at the FSC train lane bridge in Lausa, Tavua.

Divisional Police Commander for the Western Division, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iakabo Vaisewa, reported that the accident happened yesterday. He explained that as the locomotive approached the FSC train lane bridge at Lausa, it lost control and fell approximately five meters. Both the deceased and the driver were trapped inside the locomotive.

Emergency responders from Tavua Police and the Fire Station collaborated to rescue the trapped individuals. The locomotive driver is currently receiving treatment at Lautoka Aspen Hospital.
