A 39-year-old Fijian man, Sikeli Nawaqa, has tragically died in Perth, Australia, leaving behind his wife and four children in Fiji who are now grieving his loss. Nawaqa’s death was reported by Australian media following an incident where the vehicle he was driving veered off the road and struck a tree.
Originating from Nayawa in Nadroga, with maternal ties to Naceva in Beqa, Nawaqa was transporting three other Fijian men at the time of the accident. Those men were injured and were subsequently airlifted to Perth Hospital around 7 PM on Sunday.
His wife, Sulueti Naula, 37, expressed her devastation at the news, focusing on the responsibility of raising their four children alone. She recounted how a pastor, who they lived with in Perth, went to the hospital for updates, and after some time, she received a phone call from her husband’s boss. The moment she saw the call, she anticipated it was concerning her husband and succumbed to tears in her bedroom.
Just a day prior, Nawaqa and Naula had discussed plans for their 18-year-old son to study abroad. Nawaqa had applied for work overseas through the National Employment Centre (NEC) under the Ministry of Employment two years ago and had been actively managing his career, holding a supervisor position at Agri Fresh Citrus Farm at the time of his passing.
Naula remembered her husband as a dedicated and hardworking family man, while his father, Inoke Nawaqa, confirmed that the family is currently in the process of making funeral arrangements.
