A tragic car accident claimed the lives of a father and son in Lovu, Lautoka, this morning. Rup Chand, 77, and his son Rakesh Chand, 52, were traveling to Lautoka Hospital when their vehicle veered off the road, landing in a creek around 8 am. Rakesh’s son, Ravikesh, shared that they were on their way for a clinic visit and to see Ravikesh’s mother, who was hospitalized.

Ravikesh recounted that he had planned to accompany them, but they insisted he go ahead due to his work commitments. “I did not expect that would be the last time I would be seeing them alive,” he expressed.

A postmortem examination for both victims is scheduled for this Friday to determine the exact cause of death, and police investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Additional context surrounding road safety in the region highlights the importance of responsible driving. In a recent similar incident, families in Lautoka have been devastated by the loss of loved ones from traffic-related accidents. Police have been emphasizing the need for drivers to adopt a more cautious approach to avert such tragedies. This larger narrative serves as a crucial reminder of the fragility of life and the collective responsibility to ensure road safety.

While the loss is profoundly sorrowful for these families, the hope lies in community efforts toward increased road safety awareness, aiming to prevent future incidents and preserve the lives of loved ones. The tragic events may prompt enhanced discussions on traffic regulations, ultimately pushing for a society that values road safety and the well-being of all its members.
