Families and friends are grieving the untimely loss of 34-year-old Shalvin Prakash, who sadly passed away in a car accident in Nasinu on Saturday.
Shimeon Sajiv Raj, a childhood friend, shared that they had been celebrating Diwali together at their Tuirara, Makoi home just hours before the tragic incident occurred. Raj reflected on their long-standing tradition, saying, “It has been our tradition for the past 20 years to celebrate Diwali together.” He recounted how Shalvin had been with colleagues before joining their celebration, and after spending time with his friends, he left for home. Hours later, they received devastating news about Shalvin’s accident.
Initially, there was hope that it might have been a minor incident; however, as details emerged and they learned about the condition of Shalvin’s car, concern grew. Raj expressed his heartbreak at being asked to identify his friend’s body, emphasizing the impact of the loss on Shalvin’s family, who reside in the USA, stating that he was consistently a part of their home despite having his own place.
Shalvin had recently purchased a new car just two days before the accident, celebrating it as a personal gift for Diwali. Raj described him as a kind, humble, and vibrant person, highlighting how he would often call to share a laugh. “I will miss seeing his name appear on the screen of my phone, calling me five times a day just to have a good laugh,” he said.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing each moment with loved ones. Shalvin’s legacy of joy and kindness will undoubtedly live on in the cherished memories of those he touched.
In a world filled with uncertainties, this story illustrates the power of community and the support that friends and families can provide each other in times of loss. It is a call to celebrate life and hold onto the cherished moments as we navigate through our own journeys.
