An investigation has been launched into the tragic death of an inmate at the Naboro Maximum Corrections Centre, which occurred on Sunday evening. The Ministry of Justice has stated they were formally notified by the Fiji Corrections Service regarding this incident.
According to the initial reports, the inmate was found in a single cell within the secure facility when the incident took place. Authorities acted quickly, reporting the matter and involving the Fiji Police Force, including its Forensics Unit, a Resident Magistrate, and a medical officer, to begin investigations.
Simultaneously, the Fiji Corrections Service has established a full internal board of inquiry to thoroughly explore the circumstances surrounding the death, while the Fiji Police will conduct their own independent investigation. Funeral arrangements are being coordinated in consultation with the family.
