A man in his twenties tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident on Valley Road in Sigatoka yesterday afternoon. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Mitieli Divuana, the victim was one of four passengers in a car driven by a 22-year-old when the vehicle veered off the road and rolled over multiple times near Navula.
SSP Divuana indicated that the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the severe accident. The victim was ejected from the car and sustained critical injuries that ultimately led to his death. Meanwhile, the other passengers and the driver were swiftly transported to Sigatoka Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical care while authorities continue their investigation into the incident.
This distressing event underscores the ongoing issue of road safety, with the national road death toll now standing at 55, a slight improvement compared to 74 fatalities for the same period last year.
As the community mourns this loss, it serves as a reminder of the importance of safe driving practices and adhering to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies. This incident highlights the need for continued awareness and education on road safety measures to protect all road users.
