Roger Qoro Sr is facing an unimaginable heartbreak following the tragic passing of his 12-year-old son, Roger Qoro Jr, who was affectionately known as the “golden boy” of Sabeto Village in Nadi. The young boy lost his life in a heartbreaking accident on Wednesday after being thrown from a moving vehicle.

On the day of the incident, Roger Jr had accompanied members of the Revival Church to a New Year’s picnic at Natadola Beach. While he initially traveled to the beach by bus, he chose to return with friends in a carrier meant for transporting tents. His father, Mr. Qoro, was informed by Roger’s mother that their son had followed his friends, but the situation took a devastating turn when Mr. Qoro received a frantic call detailing the accident.

Witnesses to the accident took Roger Jr to Sigatoka Hospital, where he was reported to be responsive but with his eyes closed. Tragically, Mr. Qoro’s fears were confirmed later that night when hospital staff broke the heartbreaking news of his son’s passing. Roger Jr had sustained critical internal injuries and bruising.

The loss of Roger Jr is profoundly felt within his community, as Mr. Qoro shared the deep affection everyone had for his son. Described as hardworking, dependable, and excelling academically and athletically at Sabeto District School, Roger Jr earned the nickname “golden boy” due to his numerous sports accolades.

Funeral arrangements are underway, but the ripple effects of his absence are already evident in the tight-knit village. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu offered his condolences and highlighted the community’s concern over such unfortunate incidents.

This tragedy serves as a reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing our loved ones. The outpouring of support from the community reflects the love and respect Roger Jr had inspired in his short life, and his memory will undoubtedly continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
