Roger Qoro Sr is facing the heartbreaking reality of losing his son, Roger Qoro Jr, affectionately known as the “golden boy” of Sabeto Village, Nadi. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday when the 12-year-old fell from a moving vehicle.

Roger Jr had spent the day enjoying a New Year’s picnic at Natadola Beach with members of the Revival Church. While he traveled to the beach by bus that morning, he decided to return home with friends in a carrier that was transporting tents. His father recounted that his wife had informed him of their son following his friends, but later, Mr. Qoro received a call indicating that Jr had fallen from the carrier.

Witnesses to the accident rushed him to Sigatoka Hospital, where they reported he was initially responsive but kept his eyes closed. Tragically, Mr. Qoro’s fears were confirmed later that evening when he called the hospital and learned of his son’s passing.

Roger Jr suffered from internal injuries and bruising. His father reflected on the impact Jr had on their community, stating, “Ju was loved by everyone in the village. He was hardworking, dependable, and excelled both academically and athletically at Sabeto District School.” His achievements in sports had earned him the affectionate nickname “golden boy.”

As funeral arrangements are still being organized, the void left by Roger Jr’s absence is already profoundly felt among family and friends. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations Livai Driu also expressed condolences and concern regarding this tragic event.

Despite the sorrow surrounding this loss, the community may draw strength from the memories of Roger Jr’s spirit and the joy he brought to those around him. His legacy as a dedicated student and caring friend will undoubtedly continue to inspire others in Sabeto Village.

In these difficult times, it’s essential for the community to come together, offering support to the Qoro family and cherishing the memories of young Roger, whose spirit will always remain in the hearts of those he touched.
